In the early 1890's Elgar was on holiday in Bavaria and composed several pieces for chorus and keyboard, for a group of musicians he met at the inn in which he was staying. He later orchestrated 3 of them which were published as Three Bavarian Dances'. This arrangement is the 2nd movement of that suite.
