Some time ago, the germ of a melody popped into my head and immediately declared that it had to be part of a woodwind quintet. As the work progressed I was reminded of a much repeated scene from a very funny silent movie featuring actors dressed as hilariously clumsy, incompetent policemen. the Keystone Cops. thus the title, Cops and Robbers, a merry chase.
