Ferdinando Maria Meinrado Francesco Pascale Rosario Carulli was born in Naples, Italy on February 9, 1770. Carulli's first instrument was the violoncello, but at the age of twenty he discovered the guitar, to whose study and advancement he thereafter devoted himself. there being no professional guitar teachers in Naples at that time, he taught himself from that moment onward.
